End of Year Report - 2024

Two big changes have come with positive surprises.

  1. Induction stove. The LG stove has meant a few things. First of all, so much easier to clean than the old gas range. No more baked on food to scrape off. Then a huge reduction in smells...clearly the splashes onto hot surfaces that generated those baked on nasties were generating significant odours along the way. Note that research shows this to be a significant impact on indoor health.

  2. Heat pump hot water heater. While water usage is low with mostly 2 or 3 adults in the house, even over the Christmas period (10 for dinner) plus overnight guest, the heat pump section provided all required hot water - the back up electrical element was never needed (you can pick a proogram that locks it out). While there is noise from the heater as the compressor/fan does its thing, its no louder than an older gas-fired tank. As for the 'does the basement get cold?' question, as of Jan 2025 it feels no colder than it did before (its an insulated though unfinished basement).

Gas Line cut!

Project 2023 was to eliminate the final methane/natural gas usage in the house. This meant: New 200A panel installed. Not cheap, but not...
